Introduction to GAME and SCORE

GAME is a non-profit organization that works to create inclusive and youth-led street sports communities with a focus on social change. Through training local youth as Playmakers, GAME creates safe spaces for sports, empowerment, and civic engagement in underserved communities.

SCORE is GAME’s local partner in Somaliland, implementing GAME’s methodology and programming in close collaboration with local stakeholders. Together, they have rolled out multiple community-focused projects aimed at strengthening youth leadership, gender equality, and social cohesion through sport.

About the Project

Y-LEAAD is a joint initiative by GAME and SCORE Initiative aimed at empowering young people in Somaliland to take the lead in climate adaptation. Building on the 2024 Youth-led Climate Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (CVCA), the project strengthens youth capacity, mobilizes communities, and promotes youth inclusion in climate governance.

The project works in three IDP camps—Digaale (Hargeisa) and two camps in Burao, where communities face severe climate challenges such as water scarcity, flooding, extreme heat, and the spread of Prosopis juliflora. Y-LEAAD trains Climate Youth Ambassadors, facilitates community dialogue, forms Climate Action Committees, and supports youth to design and test practical, low-cost adaptation solutions.

A core component of the project is the Climate Adaptation Camp, where 40–50 young people will develop innovative climate solutions and pitch them to a panel. The three most promising ideas will be refined into small-scale pilot projects with technical support—and this is where the consultant plays a central role. SCORE will provide the facilitation of the camp.

The primary objective is to contribute to the design, and evaluation of the Camp. The consultant will equip the youth participants with the technical understanding and methodological tools to develop actionable climate adaptation ideas for their communities.

Scope of Work

The consultant will:

  • Evaluate and provide feedback on the design of the Climate Adaptation Camp.

  • Facilitate technical sessions during the Climate Adaptation Camp (40–50 youth).

  • Provide expert guidance on feasible climate adaptation solutions for IDP settings (e.g., water management, flood mitigation, greening, waste systems, Prosopis removal, heat reduction).

  • Support youth teams to analyze problems, refine ideas, and prepare pitches.

  • Work closely with the three selected youth teams to develop fully refined pilot designs, including:

    • Technical specifications and drawings

    • Materials and cost estimates

    • Risks and mitigation measures

    • Community engagement considerations

  • Submit a final technical report summarizing the pilot designs and recommendations.

Deliverables

  • Support and provide feedback on the Camp design

  • Technical session materials

  • Evaluation notes for proposal selection

  • Assist the youth in formulating pilot ideas

  • Final technical report (8–10 pages)

Qualifications Required

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Climate Adaptation, or related fields.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in climate adaptation, environmental engineering, or community-based resilience.

  • Experience working in dryland or low-resource settings; Somaliland experience is a strong asset.

  • Proven ability to mentor and support youth groups.

  • Knowledge of low-cost, scalable adaptation solutions suitable for IDP camps.

  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken) and fluency in Somali, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to youth and community members.

  • Commitment to gender equality, safeguarding, and inclusive participation.

12 working days spread across preparation, Camp delivery, pilot refinement, and reporting. Activities will take place in January.
